Live Cheap
Living “cheap” doesn’t mean starving yourself of luxuries and enjoyment. It means living well within your budget in most areas, so you can get maximum enjoyment where it really counts.
Dream Big
Dreaming big makes life worthwhile. Big dreams may seem unattainable but don’t let that stop you! I believe everyone deserves big dreams. Let’s go for it!
Why “Live Cheap, Dream Big”?
I’ve always lived life on a tight budget. Having a six-figure job never appealed to me, I always wanted to have more in my life than just one all consuming job – which is what I believed was necessary for a six-figure income. Instead, I had a job (or three) and/or a business. Whatever disposable time and money I had went to learning new things.
I’ve always had big dreams. It was my dream even as a kid to be a writer. The Beatles song “Paperback Writer” is still one of my favourites.
Now I am following that childhood dream of being a fiction writer. Not published (yet) but definitely writing. I have several novels in varying stages of completion. It’s a bit of heart project, something I work on in my spare time. Sometimes it takes center stage and I get a lot done. Other times, camping is a higher priority!
What’s on this site? Progress reports about my novel writing. Bits and pieces of things I learn through researching for the novels. Resources that my characters use in their stories. The rest remains to be seen.
Sign up to the right to get updates on the novels, and anything else I discover or create that I think might be of use to my characters.
My first novel is about Elsie. She also has a Live Cheap, Dream Big lifestyle. An early experience of unexpected financial hardship has shaped her adult motivations and fears. Now she wants to open a business as a professional quilter. Those early motivations and fears keep getting in her way!
Several more novels will be in this series. Sandy, Elsie’s next-door neighbor, who decides to open a B&B when her plans for the future don’t materialize. Pat, a writer who wishes she could stop writing ad copy and focus on her novels. And Mary, a woman who struggles with the most basic of human interactions – and learns to overcome tragedy with the help of new friends.
